COBOL to Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)

The move towards Service Oriented Architecture has been fuelled by the necessity for automation of B2B exchanges. SOA is the application of XML to Business Services.

Business Services are defined as programs which contain no interaction with user Screens. SOA enabling of Legacy Applications thus involves 2 activities:

  • separation of screen processing elements from the business code

  • Application of XML interfaces to the services

SOA enabling is achieved via customization of SoftwareMining's Business Rule Extraction (BRE) technology to the needs of individual clients. It enables the automatic separation of Screens from the business logic within the identified "Services".

This separation can be applied to original system, during a rehosting service, or during translation of the application to Java or C#.
